Omiya 1/10

After almost 2 weeks off for the winter holidays, Meiryukan Omiya was right back in to the swing of things. A quick warm-up, some breakfalls, hiriki no yosei ichi/ni and then on to a new technique - katate mochi nikajo osae ichi.

It was their first time with both the initial wrist lock and the final pin. A bit complicated, but after about 20mins they were at least starting to remember and understand the movements.

To be continued next Wednesday...

Congratulations on an excellent 6th kyu test! Less than 5 months of training, only once a week, and yet a superb 6th kyu test. Great form, smooth movements in both shite/uke.

Test training in Omiya 11/29

Mother and daughter getting ready for their upcoming 8th kyu test.

Yesterday we worked on katate mochi shihonage ichi/ni and shomen uchi ikkajo osae ichi/ni.

Learning both the shite/uke movements has been a handful, but they are progressing nicely. Their movements are getting bigger, smoother and I am seeing a lot more confidence in their basics.

Owada 11/1

Fall tests are finished and we are back to regular training at the Meiryukan Omiya club.

Today we worked on 4 different tai sabaki, as well as shomen uchi ikkajo nage, and shomen uchi yonkajo osae ichi.

The Omiya Budokan mats are hard and cold, great for suriashi but not so good for beginners practicing break falls.
We started from the basic front somersault and slowly worked our way into Yoshinkan zenpo kaiten ukemi. After only about 20mins we were into ikkajonage without any problems.

It was the first time with yonkajo, so took sime time figuring out the grip. Always a tough technique to get the students to not focus on causing pain and more on breaking their partners balance. Another fun class. Visitors always welcome!

Omiya 10/4

Next week we will be holding the first tests at the Meiryukan Omiya club. With only 2 members, and the occasional visitor or 2, each and every week we have been working entirely on the basics.

It has only been 4 months, but the mother & daughter combo are ready to test for 9th kyu.

Goodluck next Wednesday!
